Workshop Update

Our first scheduled training program for 2020, which was to be a French-speaking five-day workshop on Disaster Risk Management to be held in Martinique has now been postponed until later in the year. The workshop is the result of a collaboration between ICOM, the Museums Association of the Caribbean, and the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique, with support from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture’s Office of Strategic Partnerships and the French Ministry of Culture.

Following our 2019 conference in Martinique, and in response to requests from our membership, MAC is seeking to expand our education and training offerings outside of our annual gathering both via our virtual platform, and on site later in the year. In a region made up of numerous small territories under different jurisdictions, and with museum and heritage professionals working in very small institutions, we understand the importance of bringing people together as part of a museum community and to offer our members ongoing professional development.

The objective of the programme will be to strengthen the capacities of museum professionals to identify and mitigate risks, and to respond effectively to emergencies and crises, and to build supporting networks across the Caribbean. Colleagues from twenty-two Caribbean museums have been selected to participate.
