Looking Back at the 2019 Conference

Over 92 delegates from 36 institutions in 19 countries gathered to celebrate MAC’s 2019 30th Anniversary Conference hosted by the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique (CTM) from 12 – 17 November.

This bilingual conference brought together museum and heritage professionals from around the Caribbean, and from the Caribbean Diaspora, to explore the ways in which Caribbean museums have served as drivers of change through the promotion of diversity and cultural heritage, and by providing an impetus for the growth of the creativity economy. The meeting included inspiring keynote addresses, plenary sessions, panels, workshops and presentations, as well as informal networking opportunities, that provided multidisciplinary discussions with outcomes that will extend far beyond the meeting. Delegates were also warmly introduced to Martinique’s thriving museum sector with visits to over 14 institutions.

MAC extends its sincere thanks to all delegates for their contributions; to CTM President Alfred Marie-Jeanne, Mme Marie-Helene Leotin, and Mme Lyne-Rose Beuze for their leadership and welcome; and to the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique, National Museum of African American History and Culture, and Fondation Clement for conference support.
